Every year, Deepdale holds a Christmas Market which is always worth a visit to find unique presents. 

The White Horse is lovely and has a stunning view across the bay, it’s a real treat and makes the most of all the delicious local shellfish caught from the village fisherman.  The Jolly Sailors has a wonderful welcome and superb food it’s the perfect relaxed place to go after sailing, walking or pottering about on the beach, it’s less formal than the other pubs locally so totally child and dog friendly too.

Brancaster/Brancaster Staithe are areas of outstanding natural beauty on the North Norfolk coast. Both areas offer glorious beaches with opportunities to fish and sail. You can walk for miles along the coastal paths seeing its unspoilt golden sands.

Fakenham is a lovely market town located 3.7 miles away, comprising of several supermarkets, banks, shops, cafés and takeaways. It has good access roads to Norwich, the South, and King’s Lynn. Whilst you are there you could visit Pensthorpe Natural Park, which is a great family day out with a 700 acre nature reserve, indoor and outdoor play area, shop and café. Fakenham Racecourse is also located on the edge of town and always makes for an interesting day out.

Blakeney offers something for everyone. It’s a charming and picturesque village on the north Norfolk Coast. Famous for its nature reserve, seal colony, sailing, quaint little shops and walks. The blue Lifeboat House on Blakeney Point stands out in the distance, between the yacht masts and fishing boats in the harbour. In land from here you can see Cley Windmill and Blakeney church in the background. From March you can see lapwings displayed over the Freshes and skylarks singing their hearts out. Stop anywhere along the sea wall for a picnic, or call in at Wiveton Bell which again, has great food.

The sandy beach flanked by pine forest is about a mile from the quay and can be reached by road, on foot along the causeway or via the miniature railway. The beach has great views with mile upon mile of sands and shallow channels, pinewoods and dunes to enjoy. When the tide comes in, the beach is transformed into a harbour. The entrance channel suddenly becomes busy with visiting yachts; fishing boats setting out for the day or returning with their catch; local small boats going out to fish as well as clouds of small sailing boats racing or cruising within the harbour. Wells harbour is great for crabbing, boating and paddle boarding.  The golden sands are backed by colourful beach huts and the popular beach cafe nearby is perfect for refreshments. The Coastal Exploration Company provides a variety of adventurous and family orientated sailing charters on traditional north Norfolk wooden fishing boats in and around Wells and the marshes.

Wells next-the-Sea is a great harbour town which received the runaway winner of the first Sunday Times “Beach of the Year” award.  It is a traditional seaside town, full of great little shops, cafés, amusements, old buildings and lanes still existing from its heritage as a port and former maltings industry.

The Buttlands, which is a rectangular green lined with Georgian and late Victorian houses, used to be used for archery practise in medieval days. Now it is home to the excellent Crown hotel and restaurant which is run by Kiwi celebrity chef Chris Coubrough, as well as the popular ‘The Globe Inn’.

Wells-next-the-Sea

Holkham is an absolutely beautiful location with a stunning vast expanse of sandy beach where you could walk for miles. The saltmarsh area is rich in wildlife, attracting many bird watchers. You also have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments in the newly built lookout.  The area is popular with dog walkers throughout the year. The path that leads right from the car park is great for running to wells beach or just gently walking through the pinewoods. Across the road is The Victoria, a classic pretty English Inn with a simple but elegant menu which is owned and run by the Holkham Estate. The entrance to Holkham Hall is just over 3 miles from us, you can bike or walk from our site. The Hall is an impressive 18th century House of Palladian architecture, rich in history and charm.  It has a 3,000 acre deer park, bustling with wildlife, high ropes course, play park, walled garden and café.

Burnham Overy Staithe lies between Burnham Market, 1 mile to the west. There is a network of tidal creeks that reach out through marshes that fringe this stretch of coast and reach the sea by passing through a gap in the sand dunes. The area is well known for its recreational sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding. It also offers stunning walks along the sea wall, from where you can also get to Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve. The Hero pub and restaurant is a couple of minutes’ walk from the quayside.

Burnham Market is one of North Norfolk’s loveliest villages and is located around 5 miles from us. It’s a beautiful, vibrant and trendy village centred around the green. Burnham Market is the perfect place to shop and dine. It has a post office, butchers, and over 30 independent shops. It has a wide range of high-quality food products and some beautiful stylish accessories for home and garden. Burnham Market holds two fine culinary destinations, No Twenty9 and Socius. If you’re looking for a takeaway, in my opinion The Mermaid – Fish and Chips is great!
